Going against the odds: Continue even if you failed

Success is often measured in numbers. Your salary, your grades, your followers. The higher the number (well, with grades the lower the number) the better you are. At least it is what our current society is promoting. When I started the blog I just wanted to get my thoughts out. And help as many people as possible with my ideas.

It is now 2,5 years ago and by the means of the society, and especially social media, I pretty much failed. If you look at the numbers behind the following here and on my social media platforms it is almost close to nothing compared to the standard you see elsewhere. And yes, that really gets to you. Seeing something you love not working well compared to others.

Comparison is a clear path down the road to demotivation, depressing state and definitely a lot of tears. This was pretty much how I would describe my state with the blog and everything around it. Taking other people as a benchmark to identify how you have come made me just feel like I completely failed and it isn't for me at all. Quitting was the most logical decision to make.

On the next day after waking up, I knew that perfection is not what I wanted in the first place. I have this little space on the internet to share ideas and tips around the topics that I truly care for. Ideas that I am so passionate about that I just don't know how people will respond to them but I know that if I even help one person out there I have done well.

I am not here to be a beauty guru having an immense amount of makeup or skincare to constantly show people what is new and what to buy. I am not a fashionista who will show you the latest trend and promoting luxury products the majority of us can never afford. I am not doing zero-waste or minimalism perfectly where I can give you the best possible inspiration and tips.

It doesn't mean that I don't care about the numbers at all or that people performing better are just there for the numbers. I just know now that my main goal is definitely not found in numbers and comparison. As long as I am able to hare my own honest opinion and ideas without focusing on how to serve people best I can honestly say I failed and that's ok.

Whatever you think you have failed in life look back and see why you started it in the first place. Was it all about some numbers? Or just because you have a passion for it? Go against the odds and continue with your passion. But if you are here for the numbers just rethink your ideas. Do you really want to run around chasing perfection set by other people or do you want to do what you love and like to spend your time on?

Failure and success describe your view and it might not fit into the others. While I failed at serving a bigger audience I won by having fun, exploring ideas, writing my soul out and truly feeling loved after every single little comment. I hope you will follow your passion no matter what others say (as long as you don't harm anyone). Be grateful and have fun.
